How to play

  • The catch: the cell you play in decides which of the nine boards your opponent must play in next. Play the top-right cell and they're sent to the top-right board.
  • Free move: if you're sent to a board that's already won or full, you may play in any open board instead. The active board(s) are highlighted.
  • Win a small board (three in a row) to claim its square on the big board. Three claimed squares in a row on the big board wins the game.
  • Dead boards: a small board that fills with no winner counts for neither player and is closed for good.
  • Draws: every board decided with no big-board line, or a draw offer both players accept.
  • Online games are 10 minutes per side. Running out of time loses — there's no per-move limit.

Ultimate Tic-Tac-Toe

Nine tic-tac-toe boards inside one — and the cell you play decides which board your opponent plays next. Deep, fast, no luck. Play a friend online with challenges, a rating and match history, take on the built-in engine, or pass-and-play on one device.

Play online

Challenge a friend by name or code, or anyone in the lobby. A ready-check on both sides, a 10-minute clock each, and every result feeds a separate rating.

Vs the computer

A minimax engine that looks several moves ahead — and plans where it sends you. Runs entirely in your browser, no server.

Pass & play

One board, one device, no sign-in. The active board is always highlighted for whoever's turn it is.

One simple twist

Win small boards to claim big-board squares; three big-board squares in a row wins. Every move both attacks and hands your opponent their next board.
